The United States has a well-documented national infrastructure problem. As a society, we depend on reliable roadways, public transit, airports, sea ports, water lines, power lines, railroads, bridges, wastewater, solid waste, levees, and dams every single day.  

 

According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, in 2013, the state of the United States infrastructure system was graded on academic scale and received a "D+" grade. In 2013, they reported that the United States needed to invest $3.6 trillion in infrastructure by 2020. The 2017 Infrastructure Report Card shows that we have made some additional progress towards restoring America's infrastructure, but not enough. The nation's cumulative grade is once again a "D+".
